Prepare To Taste Adventure!

Get ready to escape the hustle and bustle of traditional life and venture out into some of the most incredible terrain the west coast has to offer. This 5 day adventure training program is designed to push your limits, test your comfort zone, build your skills, and create memories that'll last you a lifetime!

This training is broken up into two main parts: skill building training and guided adventure flights. During the first half of the training we as a team will help you improve whatever skills you need/want help with. That could be things like launching, landing, energy managment, barrel rolls (if you're ready), and more. During the second part of the training our instructors will guide you on flights around some of the most incredible scenery Utah has to offer.

This training is designed to be a safe way for pilots with all different experience levels to improve their skills and also enjoy some incredible flying. This training is designed to cater towards the newer pilots, intermmediate pilots, and advanced pilots. If you're a newer pilot looking to get some additional help, or a more experienced pilot looking to push your limits, this is the training for you. This is a great refresher course for those that need that little extra help. Maybe it's been a while since you flew, or maybe you'd just like some help getting more flights, this is a great training program for you. This training is a great way for pilots with a wide range of skill and experince to work on their skills, while still having a ton of fun!

Please plan to bring a strobe, because we will be flying every second we legally can. From 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset, if we can be flying we will be flying! If you're not totally worn out and ready for a nap by the end of the training, we didn't fly enough!

Skills Training:

During roughly half of the training program, we will be working with you to improve your flying skills. The skills sessions part of the training is a great opportunity for you to pick our instructors brains, work on techinuqes you may feel weak on, and push yourself outside of your comfort zone. Our instructors are prepared to help you work on a large variety of different things during this time.

Improved Launches & Landings:
One of the most commonly worked on skills during the training is the basics of launching and landing. Whether you're rusty, or just not as confident as you'd like to be, our instructors are ready to help you improve your launching and landing technique. This can include going back to the basics, working on your kiting, doing some power taxis, and rebuilding your techniques from the ground up. This is one of the most common things we work on with students who have less experince and need to build their skills, increase their confidence, whip off some rust, or get back into it after not having flown for years. If you want better launches and landings, we're here to help!

Energy Managment:
One of the most common skills we work on is energy managment. This incompanies a variety of things, inlcuding the basics of building and burning off energy, to the extreme side of wingovers and barrel rolls. Our team has worked hard to create a strucutred syllabus to help walk students from the basics of energy, to big wingovers in a safe, step by step process. These techniques have also been very valuable and appriciated by students who may not want to do wingovers and barrel rolls, but benefit from better understanding how the glider moves, flows, builds energy, and burns energy off. We highly recommend every pilot understand how energy work and most importantly, how to get rid of it.

Equipment Help:
Sometimes you've got gear that you're not confident in, whether you can't get your motor working right, you can't get the harness to feel right, you want to tie tip steering in, or you'd like to learn to use the speedbar, we are there ready to help.

Ground School:
Another common thing during the adventure training is a overall recap on ground school topics. This can be a great recap of important topics like weather, FAR 103, reserves, glider dynamics, risk management, and more.

Spot Landing Drills:
These drills are designed with a focus of improving pilots consistency at landing within a very tight locations. We can layout cones, and set targets for students to approach and land at safety.

Motor Out Drills:
This is an addition to the spot landing practice, where pilots will kill their engines at random times and will work on landing in exact spots without the assistance of the power. This will help improve pilots safety in the off chance they have an real world engine out and have to land in a very tight location without a go around option. This drill is extremely helpful to pilots and is something that should be done on a regular basis.

Other things we can work on during the training (if requested):

  • Cross wind launches & landings
  • Turbulence tolerance
  • Energy managment
    • Steeper turns
    • Spirals
    • Wingovers
    • Barrel rolls
    • SAT's
    • And more (no stalls or spins)
  • Foot drags
  • Formation flying
  • Speedbar training
  • Tip steering instruction
  • Glider tuning and adjusting
  • And more

This training is here to help you improve, no matter what it is that you want/need to improve on. We're happy to help you work on whatever it is, that you want help with!

Adventure Flights:

The best part of this training is the mix between the skills training and the adventure flying. We feel we've struck a great balance between helping students work on key skills and techinques, and just having a great time flying. These adventure flights will be guided flights with our instructors leading you into some of the most beautiful terrain the west coast has to offer. These locations can be remote, at high altitudes, with jaw dropping terrain. These group flights will include how we plan, prep, check weather, and flight breakdowns of what were thinking and where were going.

These are a great way to explore new areas in a safe way, while learning more about how to safely explore the sky. Some of the areas include mountain peaks, lakes, sand dunes, dry lake beds, buttes, and more. These adventures will also include ground support helping you in the off chance something goes wrong. Our team has zero tolerance for leaving people behind, and you'll be carefully watched over for each and every flight with our team ready to help recover you from any situation. Rest easy knowing we are there to help.

Planning & Prep - Prior to each adventure flight, our instructors will sit down with you to show you what they do to plan and prepare for each adventure flight. This includes weather checks, engine out risk, rotor planning, and more. If you want to know more about planning and preparing for real world big flights, this is a great way to learn.

Live In Flight Feedback - One of the best parts about having a guide through these flights is that you can get live feedback on the conditions, environment, and situation you find yourself in. During the flight the instructors are more than happy to share what they are seeing, experiencing, and thinking as they go throughout the flight. Nothing beats live in flight feedback.

Flight Debrief - Another great tool for learning more is doing post flight debriefs. This can include reviewing the student launches and landings via video, walking through flight logs to see where and why we flew where we did, and more. We try our best to have one of our instructors on the ground filming every launch and landing to later review with the students. Often times more can be learned in a flight debrief than the flight itself.

Training Location:

Salt Lake City, Utah:
During the spring summer and fall (April-October) our training is located just west of Salt Lake City, Utah. Our training facility is located in the town of Tooele, Utah and there are lots of options of places to stay from Airbnb's to hotels. The training field is about 20 minutes from downtown Tooele and offers fantstic flying morning and evening. There is no camping on site but there are campgrounds nearby. You are responsible for transportation to and from class on a day to day basis. Ground school will be held daily at our location in Tooele, Utah.

We do have a list of recommended places to stay, things to bring, what to expect, etc, that will be sent upon registration or request.

Driving Warning: We believe in transperency and want to make sure expectations are properly set prior to the training. Please come to training prepared to drive from time to time during the training.

In addition to our at home field, one of the things we do like to do during this class is travel roughly 3 hours south to another location that offers some of the most beautiful flying ever. This is weather dependent, and from a logistics standpoint we understand the struggles of that. We would encourage you to book your lodging for the full 5 days near Tooele but if the weather permits be prepared to also book a hotel or camp for 1 or 2 nights at the other location. Trust us, if the conditions are good it will likely be the coolest flying you will ever do. Again, this is all weather dependent and if the weather permits we will travel, if not we will stay local to Tooele.

Training is held in Salt Lake City from April - October.

Salton Sea, California
Training will be held at a small RV park called West Shores Marina on the shoreline of the Salton Sea which is roughly 45 minutes south of Palm Springs, California. Training will be held on the runway which is attached to the RV park itself. Yes, there's a built in runway for paramotoring! There are local accommodations, hotels, and airbnbs within a short drive. We do have a list of recommended places to stay, things to bring, where to go, what to expect, etc, that will be emailed to you upon registration or request. We will be training in one location except for our final flight on the final day. We like to travel roughly 1.5 hours south to some local sand dunes for our final flight and trust us, it's worth the drive. If you're renting gear we will haul it to and from that location, otherwise please plan to haul your gear down and back.

Training is held at the Salton Sea from November - March.

Equipment Rentals:

We do provide equipment rentals for students who are traveling in from far away! We've got half a dozen paramotors to choose from. We encourage all students to bring their own wings and reserves if they do plan to rent equipment from us. Motor rental is $100 per day (which includes oil and fuel). Contact us directly and we would be happy to help you with renting equipment.

Training Requirements:

We designed and structured this training with a slew of skill levels in mind. The locations we will be launching, landing, and flying at are both friendly for new pilots, and exciting for experienced pilots. This training is not for people looking to take their first flights, but instead for pilots who are already flying and looking to improve their skills and build their confidence. Our minimum is *roughly* 25 flights, and were willing to have students with less. The overwhelming goal of this class is to help you improve, so no matter if your rusty, current, skilled, or still a rookie, we're here to help. Our training locations are fields with lots of space, and are very friendly to newer pilots.

How To Sign Up:

Once you're ready to rock and roll, add the training dates of your choice to the cart, proceed to checkout, and complete the checkout. Once we see you've completed the checkout, we will reach out directly via phone and email with additional information on where to be, when to be there, what to bring, etc.

Refund's & Rescheduling:

One of our core values is being transparent with our students and customers, and refunds/rescheduling is one of the things we try to be very clear about. Here at Backcountry PPG LLC, we do not offer refunds on any equipment or training purchases. We are a small business, and refunds can quickly put us in a difficult position, which we are not willing to do. We also want commitment from our students; meaning, if we offered refunds for our training, we would often encounter people who bounce back and forth, causing us headaches and financial losses due to credit card and refund fees. To avoid dealing with flaky students, we don’t offer refunds. We want to be fully transparent about this, and when you sign up, we want you to understand and be committed.

That said, we fully understand the logistics of life and how unforeseen circumstances can arise, causing you to reschedule. We are always more than happy to reschedule you to any future class, at any time, with no questions asked—even if it’s years down the line. We will work with you to find a time that fits your schedule, as we understand how challenging it can be to get ten days off. The only request we have is that you give us as much notice as possible, so we have the opportunity to try and fill your spot.

Thanks to Trevor and Mike for an outstanding adventure in the Canyon lands of southern Utah. Trevor is an excellent instructor and worked very hard to find us flyable times and locations in this rugged terrain despite a windy week. The 40 mile 90 minute loop we did is truly one of the most EPIC things I have ever experienced. Ever. As a Carolina man it seemed like flying on a different planet. I have never experienced terrain like that. Truly awesome and spectacular. Thanks to Backcountry PPG!

I loved my experience with the Back Country PPG adventure training. I'm a newer pilot and learned a lot. Trevor met each pilot at their skill level and helped leveled them up. We got very memorable cross country flights in. Trevor kept a lookout over everything and make it a priority to keep everyone safe. I wouldn't hesitate to join another adventure class with Back Country.

Trevor is an AMAZING instructor! I was having intermediate syndrome at home and was able to make it down for one of his courses! I definitely feel more confident and comfortable going upside down now!

Customer photo review of 5-Day Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training

The adventure course was epic. On the first part, skills, I managed to significantly improve some of my skills (energy management) and could focus on fine tuning and refinement (instead of the typical water hose info that is done in the boot camp training). We went really deep into some technical topics such as reserve and trimming and it led me understanding how 2D steering works and actually using it successfully. The 2nd part, adventure XC flying, was world class - with stunning beach flying on the Salton Sea shore, then canyon carving (twice), and finally the majestic Glamis Dunes. Trevor and Mike are professionals yet fun to hang out with. The atmosphere was casual and very friendly.

I learned I was more capable than I realized. Launching at 5000+ feet with 14 Liters of fuel in somewhat switching wind. Well worth the investment in your Paramotor education. I learned so much. Well worth the time and investment. The Adventure flights were the most amazing flights I have had to date. Very much considering sighing up for it again.

5-Day Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training

Customer photo review of 5-Day Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training

I recently completed Backcountry PPG's 5-Day Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training in September 2025, and it was an incredible push that leveled up my skills. As a P3-rated paragliding pilot who relocated to the flatlands, I was eager for transition training to get into paramotoring properly. The course is designed for pilots who've already got some airtime under their belt, though it's flexible and caters to newer, intermediate, or advanced pilots looking to build confidence, refresh rusty skills, or tackle challenging adventures. It's split into skill-building sessions (like fine-tuning launches, landings, and energy management) followed by guided XC flights over stunning landscapes. I reached out to Trevor directly about transition options, and he recommended this adventure course as a great fit. Coming in with just one powered paramotor flight, we tailored the focus to the fundamentals: safe launches and landings to build a solid foundation. While the program typically assumes more experience for its advanced elements, the personalized approach made it work for me. Flying at sites above 5,000 feet in Utah was a game-changer, forcing me to improve my forward launch techniques for paramotoring. High-altitude conditions can be tough for pilots used to lower elevations. Thinner air means longer run-outs, precise throttle control, and impeccable form to avoid failed launches or collapses. Proper technique is critical for safety and success in these environments. His real-time feedback was spot-on, helping me adapt quickly. Our other instructor Mike was great as well, always willing to help out! Trevor will push you outside your comfort zone with some of the challenging LZ sites out there. Forget freshly cut soccer fields. Think switchy nil-wind launches in fields with thorn bushes, ditches, and boulders. Many of the other pilots mentioned these were some of the most difficult launches they ever experienced. But if you are type of person willing to challenge yourself to improve, you will have fun. Now, back at home, I feel rock-solid on launches and overall more confident as a pilot. I highly recommend this challenging course to anyone wanting to sharpen their paramotoring skills, prioritize safety, and enjoy some epic guided adventures.

If you’re on the fence, SIGN UP! Trevor is an excellent instructor. He does a great job of judging your individual skill level and then helping you get to the next level. Not to mention the beautiful scenery. There are very few locations that allow you to see landscapes like these. I feel like a much more competent pilot after the Adventure Training. I’m already planning to sign up for another class next year.

My son and I went to the adventure training. It's a great way to tune up your skills, meet new people, tell good stories, and fly new terrain. Flying in the mountains is fun and I would like to go back and do more someday. Trevor has vast knowledge of the sport and is a great resource to answer any questions you have. The best part is he is always easy to get ahold of and is very quick to reply.

Customer photo review of 5-Day Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training

I just wrapped up Trevor Steele’s adventure training, and honestly, it was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. Not only did I get way more confident with my flying ✈️, but I got to see parts of Utah I never would’ve visited otherwise 🏜️. We flew in some absolutely amazing locations—places with views that honestly didn’t feel real 🤯. Mountains, canyons, wide open valleys… it was unreal 🌄. Trevor helped me really dial in my takeoffs and landings 🛫🛬. Before this course, I’d never done a touch and go before—by the end, I was doing them confidently and actually enjoying them 🙌. He’s super observant and gives great feedback that actually makes sense. You can tell he’s watching every little detail to help you improve while still letting you have fun 😎. One of the biggest things I took away was learning how to fly in the mountains 🏔️. I had no idea how much there was to consider—different wind patterns, mountain turbulence, how to identify and avoid rotor 🌪️, and just reading the terrain better in general. Trevor walked us through all of that in a way that actually stuck, and made me feel way more prepared for flying in more dynamic conditions 🧠. Overall, the course was everything I hoped it would be and more 🙏. Trevor was super attentive to each of us, made sure we were always safe 🦺, and kept the vibe really fun the whole time 🎉. I came out of it a way better pilot and even more stoked about paramotoring 🪂. If you’re thinking about doing this course, seriously—go for it. You won’t regret it 💯

Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training

Customer photo review of Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training

I meet Trevor in April of 2021 and since then I have attended several of his Advanced and Adventure classes. My most recent class was one of his Adventure classes at the Salton Sea in February 2025. It was a great learning experience, and it was fun too. Trevor's teaching style is very good, and he helps you improve your skills while also correcting bad habits. If you want to progress your skills to higher levels, he will help you do so, but in a safe manner. Safety is always his primary mission. In addition to Trevor, you also get Mike, his assistant instructor and mechanic. Mike also has many years of experience, and his compassionate way of helping is an asset to all the training programs. I look forward to many years with Trevor and Mike not just as instructors, but also as valued friends.

Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training

Customer photo review of Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training

I just got done with the Adventure/Progression Training Class at the Salton Sea. Trevor and Mike were great and knowledgeable about everything paramotoring. Trevor helps you work on what you want to learn or improve on, and nothing ever felt rushed. He also suggested I tie in my tip steering and helped me set that up. I didn't know my wing was capable of until he helped me with this. The adventure trips we took to the canyons by the Salton Sea and the Glamis Dunes were without a doubt some of the best flights of my paramotoring life. If you are looking to break out of flying your same LZ in your town and want to progress in your flying I would highly recommend this class. Thank you backcountry.ppg

Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training

Customer photo review of Adventure / Advanced Paramotor Training

I recently had an AWESOME experience with the Adventure Progression Training class at Backcountry PPG! I learned so much and had a blast while doing it. The team of instructors are extremely knowledgeable about everything and anything related to PPG flying as well as the maintenance and repair of equipment. The course works with every pilot on an individual basis according to their specific skill levels and personal goals that are set out before starting the class. In addition, the instructors may entice you--in a good way--a little bit out of your comfort zone if they know you can SAFELY handle more than even you thought you were ready for--emphasis on safely. For myself, I was able to fly my first trike, work a bit on drills for swoop landings, try out some new wings in anticipation of my next upgrade, get some tips and tweaks on some of the very basics like better take-offs and landings, more solidify my confidence in safe energy management, and then--to the delight of my adrenaline craved nervous system--learned how to perform some big wingovers and even a (mostly) barrel-roll--SUCH a rush! Along with the daily skills building sessions, every day we took group flights to some amazing destinations close by that the instructors are familiar with. These flights fit the skill levels of most anyone and are a joy to attend whether you’re satisfied by flying high and slow above the gorgeous landscapes or carving through in close proximity to canyon walls and gigantic rolling sand dunes. I would definitely recommend this course--as well as the other Backcountry PPG offered courses and equipment acquisitions--to anyone and I count myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to have this experience run by Backcountry PPG. Thanks so much guys!

I recently attended a progression training course at Backcountry PPG. Trevor and Mike are fantastic instructors, and will work with you at your level whether you're right out of initial training , a seasoned pilot, or anything in-between. I found the progression course worthwhile and what I learned will be useful for years to come. Also glad to see that Backcountry PPG caries a variety of gear manufacturers and can offer insightful comparison and recommendations amongst them. Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved the advanced progression course. Judson and Trevor went above and beyond to delicate diligent attention to each student on a personal level. I learned so much more than my initial training and am grateful to have had the opportunity to train with these guys. Whether you're looking to get into PPG or advance your existing PPG skills, this is the place you want to be!!!

The Backcountry advanced course is amazing! Judson and Trevor do an awesome job to get you progressing quick. Before the course I only did small S-turns and within the first flight I was able to do wingovers and asymmetric spirals. I can not recommend their training enough!

Progression Training / Advanced Training (level 2)

Customer photo review of Progression Training / Advanced Training (level 2)

I've been flying recreationally for years, usually getting up once a month or so. I got really comfortable with my trusty old wing Macpara Muse3, which I flew for nearly 6 years. It was slow as molasses and felt like part of me when I flew, but it made me the slowpoke in group cross-country flights. When I finally decided to upgrade to BGD Luna 2. But man, that first flight was a wake-up call! It was way faster than I expected, and coming in for a landing was way hotter than I was used to. I realized quickly that my skills weren't up to par for this new wing, especially with its reflex technology. No matter how many videos I watched, I just couldn't get the hang of flaring it properly. I spent a whole year trying to figure it out on my own, but I just kept making mistakes, that I never done before, like rushing my launches and not setting up my landings & flaring right because of frustration buildups. That's when I knew I needed some real, hands-on help. My muscle memory was still stuck on my old wing, and I needed someone to help me retrain it. After a lot of searching, I found Backcountry PPG and their progressive training. Signing up was the best decision I made. Trevor, Judson, and Mike were amazing. They took me from landing like a stupid to landing my Luna 2 like a butterfly. It's unbelievable how much my landings have improved. They even taught me so many other techniques to keep practicing at home. Thanks to the team at Backcountry PPG for such an incredible experience. You guys are a blessing to the Paramotor community.

Customer photo review of Progression Training / Advanced Training (level 2)

Well, I rarely write a review maybe because I think no one will really want to know what I have to say, that someone else hasn’t said already. So I’m writing this because it was that good! Trevor and Mike were excellent. I started the class really uneasy But they immediately built my confidence, I also witnessed them meet every student at their ability, and everyone in the class improved, at their level, and they never pushed anyone too hard,, but they pushed us individually, I can only explain that, as they know the sport so intimately that they can see each one’s level as soon as they start training them, they asked the right questions to each of us to know where we want to go and what we’d be able to accomplish. I would definitely take an additional class down the road to improve on my skills, and I will most likely buy my next wing from them, and probably go out and fly it with them the first time if I can, also during the class I got Trevor‘s brake toggles, they are a game changer! OK, I hope someone finds this helpful, I sincerely mean everything I say, I hope more people take lessons and fly safe. KC

As a PPG pilot, have you ever stood there, A’s and toggles in hand, ready to launch and just hoping everything is going to work out ok, praying you’re not going to regret the next few seconds? Or how about coming in for a landing and still hurting from your last few impacts? I just finished the 4 day course at the Salton Sea for advanced pilots. I’m not advanced so I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate for me. I quickly learned it was the perfect fit. There were 6 students, all with different skill levels. Trevor and crew were so incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, patient and thorough. We spent some time reviewing much needed basics and he made sure everyone’s foundation was rock solid before advancing the progression of each individual student using a tailored approach for each one. Trevor also taught me how to do the perfect swoop land and wingovers. Of course they’re not dialed in yet but with the tools he gave me I know what to work on to make them perfect. This sport just became way more enjoyable simply because I’m a much safer pilot without the dread of questionable control. I recommend the advanced course to anyone who wants to sharpen their skills and enjoy this sport to its fullest. I’d give more stars if I could

I attended the Nov. 2023 training in Corpus Christi and was glad I did. I came in with very limited experience and left with confidence that I could launch and land on my own. Trevor’s instruction is calm and intentional. He has a way of putting you at ease and taking things one step at a time. His extensive flying experience really shows in his training. I’m a late comer to this sport as a 65-year-old and I had no reservations about taking instruction from someone as young as Trevor. His youth and excitement about the sport is infectious. Although the training is serous business, there was a lot of laughter and camaraderie among the students and instructors. I highly recommend this training for anyone who wants to advance their level of flying to the next step.

I can't recommend Backcountry PPG enough! Trevor is an awesome instructor and coach. He is calm on the radio and instills confidence; yet, he won't let you get in over your head. I learned a lot in advanced training. Coming mainly from free-flight paragliding with limited PPG, Trevor was great adapting and honing my skills to PPG. Trevor is very passionate about PPG and it shows in all that he does.

Trevor was awesome to learn from! Did a lot of flying and I feel that I walked away with valuable experience and knowledge of the sport. I highly recommend this training program for new pilots wanting to get the pieces to excel in skill and seasoned pilots who want to rip some fat wing overs alike!

I attended the Aug 2022 advanced course in Salt Lake with Backcountry PPG. I did not fly near as much as I thought I would. Completly due to some fear issues I needed to deal with. Trevor was so patient in understanding these issues, and in short time he helped me gain the confidence I needed. I was able to launch in a very rough LZ that I would have never thought possible. I was flying in bumpy air that I never would have before. And lets face it, if your going to fly, your going to hit bumps. The class and group, including helpers were awsome. I would highly recommend this training to anyone that has only received the basics. Or wants to advance their skills to a higher level. Good program, do it.

I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to attend Back Country PPG advanced training. Trevor has an extreme wealth of knowledge to offer. I would reccomend this class to anyone who wants to begin or advance in their skill set. I feel more confident in my forward launches and landings. I have also gained a bit of tolerance for turbulence. To add on top of this it's a great atmosphere to be in no matter how good you are and you might meet so more flying buddies. I hope to be able to come back as there is so much to learn. Thanks for the confidence boost Trevor!!!

I was in Trevor's advanced training in June, and I am so thankful that I was a part of it! I learned a lot in super training, but I had been lacking in some area's, forward launching for example. In the few days I was there in Utah, my forward launching went from sketchy, to smooth! And my confidence level with overall launching has gone way up! I also learned several very valuable tips and tricks, like laying out the wing to prevent lines from snagging on launch, a little tip, with big results! I recommend this class 100%, for any pilot, but especially the new pilots like me, that need the guidance from professionals, so we can fly safely, and fly for a long time. Thanks Trevor, I appreciate all that you've done for me, and the other students!
